BCCG Region NRW's New Year's Reception
2014 has been a year of relative calm if low growth in the Euro zone. The Sovereign Debt Crisis has been held in check with the remedial efforts put in place after 2011 such as the European Financial Stability Facility and the European Stability Mechanism. Stock markets have been earlier in the year in high flight to be replaced, however, with increasing volatility as the year progressed. It would appear that investor confidence has been waning as growth impulses in Europe have remained stubbornly absent. There is a feeling that the underlying debt problems of many sovereign nations have not been fundamentally resolved and hence it remains unclear how much longer stability can be maintained.
Against this backdrop we are delighted to be invited to HSBC, a long standing Sustaining Member of the BCCG, to hear the views of their Chief Economist Stefan Schilbe. After gaining a Masters in economics at Cologne University, Stefan joined HSBC where he rose to become their Director of Treasury before becoming Chief Economist.
He will elaborate on the economic environment and the likely impact of monetary policy on a range of economic indicators.
